Michael McGinty – KEYBOARDS, SONGWRITER

Hometown: Gastonia, NC

Played with: Way too many bands to remember.  Those that I recall the most are The Softtones (I toured up and down the east coast with them and did a great tour through the Virgin Islands).  My biggest (and favorite) band was Guns For Hire, a post-punk, Springsteen-Elvis Costello sound (late '80s).

Musical Influences: Laura Nyro, Leon Russell, Randy Newman, Little Feat (in particular, Lowell George and Bill Payne), blues folks in general (Clapton, Mayall, Son Seals, John Lee Hooker, Dr. John, Howlin' Wolf, Taj Mahal, etc), R&B/Motown, Petula Clark, Gershwin, Bartok, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Doors, and Lou Reed.

Primary Gear: Korg Triton Extreme 88, Korg TR 88, Crown amps, Mackie mixer, MXR and Alesis effects, EV speakers.

Passion: Well, I play music for the passion, not for the money. I like the co-op feel of a band and enjoy the interchange. And finally, I think that art, if anything, will save the world, not science, business, politics or sports. I believe that music is part of the broad collective sensation we call art. And I feel useful being a part of that.
