Electric Bass player Charmaine Tam is from the Chicago area where she discovered blues. She was born into a musical family and earned blues from a stack of vinyl. She was started on the piano at the age of four, the cello at the age of eight, and after experimenting with several other instruments she settled on the electric bass. Charmaine attended music school receiving a BA and MA in Jazz Composition and Electric Bass from Chicago’s Roosevelt University. She then went to Boston’s New England Conservatory for further studies in World Music. While there she became a part of the blues scene, playing in various bands for fifteen years in Boston and throughout New England. She played and recorded with "Maynard Silva and the New Hawks," (J.B. Hutto’s backing band in the ‘70‘s) recording two albums. She has been playing in the San Diego area since 2003 in various bands including West of Memphis, Smokin Knights, and 99 Degrees.

Awards:
While a member of West of Memphis, received the award Best Blues Band by the SDMA in 2009.
While a member of Smokin Knights, won 1st place in BLUSD's regional IBC in 2009, which earned them a spot in the Memphis International Blues Challenge.
